Opting out of Push Notifications

In-App Marketing will be shutting down November 1st, 2018. API calls will be removed in Tune Android & iOS SDKs v6.0.0. Customers are required to remove all code references to prevent service disruption. Please contact your Customer Success Manager with additional questions.

There are several reasons why an end user will not receive push notifications:

  • End user turns off notifications in their App Settings
  • End user is of and age that requires privacy protection; e.g. COPPA.
  • The app developer includes the setter to opt the user out of notifications

End User Opt Out

For both Android and iOS, end users can control whether or not they receive push notifications on a per app basis.

To disable push notifications at the Android system level:
  1. Go to Settings > Apps.
  2. Select the app for which you want to disable notifications.
  3. Tap Notifications in the App Settings.
  4. Toggle the Allow Notifications switch off.

NOTE: For Android only, the app developer can check if the end user has opted out of push notifications with the following:

To disable push notifications at the iOS system level:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Select the app for which you want to disable notifications.
  4. Toggle the Allow Notifications switch off.

End User Requires Privacy Protection

In the US, targeting advertising to end users under 13 triggers requirements under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act or  “COPPA.” These include obtaining verified parental consent. For more information, see the FTC’s 6 Steps to COPPA compliance.

When a user is under 13, such users are treated as follows:

  • Automatic exclusion of an under 13 user from any segment exported via our Audiences feature.
  • Automatic exclusion of an under 13 user from receiving Push Messaging Campaigns via our In-App Marketing product.
  • There is no exclusion of an under 13 user from being measured by Attribution Analytics (as one of the “activities necessary for the site or service to maintain or analyze its functioning,” attribution is an exception to COPPA ).

For more information on the TUNE SDK's setters for age and privacy protection on Android and iOS, please see Settings for User Characteristics.
